It’s not presumptuous at all! And it’s not something I’m going to return to in any detail so I don’t mind talking about it.

Loki’s primary reaction when Sif first takes off her hood and he sees the wreath was surprise! He was very neurotic about that particularly because he did a lot of second-guessing about giving it to her. When he did give it to her it was sort of a last ditch flaily kind of thing. He knew that their relationship was changing, but he wasn’t sure how much or how fast and he didn’t want to overstep, but he also didn’t want to just go off when it would be so long before they saw each other again and not have any kind of statement of interest or intention at all.

So, he froze up! Then, he conjured that up because it was what came to him. Then he felt really silly, but it was too late! And after he was home, he wasn’t sure if she’d worn it to his whole leave-taking business to be polite or what. (If he had been thinking slightly more rationally, he would know that Sif certainly wouldn’t do anything just to be polite to him lololol.) So when she shows up wearing it again, it’s pretty clear that there’s only one way she means for him to interpret it! Reciprocal interest/intention! Which, for all that he pretends at great confidence wrt his ~plans~ later, he didn’t expect so immediately and clearly, because, you know, he has issues. Thus: surprise and overwhelment.

Secondarily, he pretty much wanted to KISS HER FACE because, as I’ve mentioned previously I think, both he and Sif are very possessive, so for better or worse, seeing her wearing something he’d made for her gave him FEELS.

In his pants. (Which he still tends to find the slightest bit distressing at that point btw.)
