Q:You have a few of your facts wrong about Gabby Douglas. Iordache, Yao Jinnan, Komova, and Aly Raisman all have higher D-Scores than her. Gabby has also only beaten Jordyn twice, and one time was the day Jordyn had an asthma attack and was not at full power. She's inconsistent still. And while being fifth last year with lesser difficulty is nice, everyone who beat her last year has also upgraded, as well as Mustafina who wasn't there. I wish her the best, but you also need your facts straight
Iordache, Yao Jinnan, Komova, and Aly Raisman all have higher D-Scores than her.
No. They don’t. Gabby has been credited with a 25.5 and is attempting a 25.9. Raisman has made a 25.4 and is attempting a 25.5, Komova has made a 24.9 and is attempting 25.4, and Iordache has made a 24.8 and is attempting a 25.3. Yao is attempting a 25.2. Yes, you read that right. Gabby has been LEGITIMATELY CREDITED with a higher D-score than anyone else in the world is even ATTEMPTING.
Gabby has also only beaten Jordyn twice, and one time was the day Jordyn had an asthma attack and was not at full power.
Please reread your own comment. She has beaten her.
She’s also beaten Jordyn at numerous training camps. I fail to see your point here. Whether it was once or a million times I stated only that SHE HAS BEATEN HER. Make whatever excuses you want for why, but they both hit and Gabby beat her. Twice.
She is inconsistent still.
She just went 8 for 8 at Olympic Trials. She went 7-for-8 at Nationals. Oh no, one missed routine of 16!!1 HOW INCONSISTENT OF HER.
She’s nervy on beam. That’s it. She’s been hitting the hell out of everything else AND staying on beam as well. Get over the inconsistent narrative. It’s bull.
She’s going on up on three events in team finals at the Olympics ffs.
while being fifth last year with lesser difficulty is nice, everyone who beat her last year has also upgraded, as well as Mustafina who wasn’t there.
With less difficulty AND her hamstring injury. That was key. And, as noted, she currently has the highest D-score in the world. And I love Mustafina but the only place she’s truly regained form is bars.
I wish her the best, but you also need your facts straight
I’m not the one who has a confused relationship with facts here.
If I never see one more person blathering on about how Gabby Douglas is SO OVERRATED
it will be
too soon
- She has the highest total D score IN THE ENTIRE WORLD.
- She has good form, immense power, great flexibility, nice lines, and, most importantly, the ability to actually perform everything she’s attempting, thus making her capable of very high E scores as well.
- She was inches away from beating the reigning World AA Champion WITH A FALL. (And, arguably, should have actually won anyway.)
- She has, on other occasions, actually beaten said reigning World AA Champion.
- She herself was ranked 5th in the world AA last year carrying an injury AND less difficulty.
Saying, in light of all of this, that Gabby Douglas is a legitimate Olympic AA Gold Medal threat is not OVERRATING HER.
It’s being fucking realistic.
If you want to pretend despite her spending the last year getting progressively better and better, more and more consistent, and stronger and stronger, that she’s going to go to the Olympics and randomly implode, then that’s your perogative.
But not basing one’s evaluation of her ability on such speculation is not OVERRATING HER. It’s looking at what she’s actually been doing ffs.
But no seriously…
I will actually have to take a bit of a break from ~gym fandom~ during the wait until the Olympics because gym fans are vicious and rabid and they basically hate anyone to do well ever.
So as soon as someone starts doing well they TURN ON THEM. And I don’t feel like sitting through bullshit about Gabby who everyone has KNOWN ALL FUCKING YEAR was a better gymnast than Jordyn, but just needed to put it together, suddenly being perceived as A NO CHANCE ATHLETE BEING BOOSTED TO MANUFACTURE A RIVALRY.
Because that’s bull. AND I HAVE NO TIME OR PATIENCE FOR IT.
MAN ANNOUNCE THIS SHIT DAMN
Grab a MIC.
I’m glad at least that they didn’t do like 2004 and show the girls when they told them. That was mean.
