I enjoy Dick and Wally’s friendship, in general, and I especially enjoy it here. The fic is light-hearted and pretty adorable, and the edge of Dick’s loneliness and need for a friend gives it a lovely emotional undercurrent.

I LOVE SPEEDSTERS SFM, YOU GUYS. This is a delicate and thoughtful take on Wally’s dietary requirements, usually treated as a joke, and how very serious they actually are and how that affects him mentally and emotionally. SPEEDSTERRRRSSSS AND THEIR PROBLEMSSSS.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh. This is a delightful exploration of Conner and M’gann and how they’ve felt throughout the entirety of currently aired canon, about their mentors, about their teammates, about their respective statuses as strangers in strange lands, and, of course, about each other. The second-person POV really works for me here and the handling of Conner/M’gann is sweet and subtle and adorable.
Either Conner/M’gann is overplayed/give too much screentime OR it comes out of nowhere.
You can’t have it both ways.

Do you know the main thing that makes me wish I could burn down the horrible parts of Young Justice fandom with eye lasers and salt the earth so that the douchebaggery can never grow again? It’s all the M’gann hate. There’s this weird insistence that M’gann is somehow less than a fully capable member of the team. That somehow she’s weak or useless or, sin of sins, a MARY SUE, because she’s sweet and enjoys traditionally feminine things and has feelings for Superboy WHO CLEARLY DOESN’T RETURN HER AFFECTIONS, and… wait, what? Really?
Because everyone knows that:
- Being positive and kind and open about your feelings means that you’re a stereotype. It couldn’t possibly mean that you’re a nice person who cares about your friends, THAT WOULD BE RIDICULOUS.
- Having a crush on a boy means that you’re a slut, and being open about your romantic feelings means you’re a cliche, which is why everyone hates Wally oh wait no.
- The only reason anyone would honestly enjoy baking is if they’re — fuck, okay, no, I can’t even finish this sentence, my IQ will actually drop.
Also for some reason there’s this fandom… thing… where apparently M’gann hates fighting? Look, I don’t know what show you’re watching and I can’t even pretend to be sarcastic anymore because this is honestly too stupid. I HAVE ACTUALLY SEEN THIS. MULTIPLE TIMES. For some reason people equate her femininity with her wanting PEACE!!! except, uh, guys, remember how she’s actually a total badass and in the first episode she was in there was that awesome fakeout where it looked like she totally killed a guy and everyone was like HOLY FUCK, M’GANN, YOU CAN’T JUST GO AROUND STRAIGHT UP ICING DUDES WITH ROCKS, DO YOU COME FROM PLANET TARANTINO OR SOMETHING, OH MY GOD and she was like lol guys it’s just a robot but everyone was still a little bit edgy anyway because MIND BOULDERS? Yeah, that happened. I’m sorry that she’s too amazing for you to deal with and you have to downplay her badassery in order to feel better about yourself. I’m not really sure what to tell you!
Also: everyone (read: painfully stupid people) seems to think that M’gann brainwashed Superboy into liking her in Bereft, which is so mind-bogglingly stupid that I can’t even deal with it. Not only is it pretty damn clear within the show that she’s RECOVERING HIS MEMORIES and the fact that we haven’t seen some of them before is BECAUSE THEY ACTUALLY BOTHERED TO ANIMATE NEW FOOTAGE BECAUSE IT’S A GOOD SHOW, that theory’s been confirmed by Greg Weisman multiple times to be completely fucking stupid as hell.
M’gann likes Superboy. Superboy likes M’gann. It’s made pretty clear within the show and confirmed as much as something can possibly be confirmed by about every fifth answer over at Ask Greg. Superboy smiles at her! Multiple times! Which is kind of a big deal. She reaches out to him. She makes him happy. I’m not quite sure how people manage to consistently miss his very clearly telegraphed warm and fuzzy feelings for her.
I guess I’d like to wrap this up by saying that 1) I don’t care what characters you like or dislike but if you hate M’gann for any of the above reasons then chances are I think you’re a tool; 2) M’gann is completely excellent, you guys, and I would totally bake cookies with her; and 3) this show is written for thirteen year olds and if you can’t understand what’s going on here on a very basic writing level, then that’s really just kind of sad.
I just need to have this on my blog now and also forever.
I want to reblog this post every week in the hopes that eventually it will seep into YJ fandom’s brain and they will stop being what they are.

Okay, so, I spend most of my time in YJ fandom (thusfar) writing fic for ridic pairings that I made up such as Artemis/Kaldur, Tula/Kaldur/Garth, and Dick/YJ!Babs Who Doesn’t Actually Exist, but Supey/M’gann is actually my OTP for the show.
They are just SO FUCKING ADORABLE. I can’t even. I love that they’re awkward around each other, that they’re feeling their way through slowly but surely. I love that M’gann is open about her eyehearts and sweet, awkward, shy Conner expresses himself through acts of kindness towards her, through his concern for her physical and emotional well-being. I love their closeness, obviously suborned by their LIVING TOGETHER and how attuned M’gann is to him and his needs, reflecting the way he is, as already mentioned, very aware of and protective of her.
I love that they have mis-steps, but they fix them!
I love that they just LIKE each other. OKAY THAT IS MY NUMBER ONE SHIP KINK OF ALL TIME. RADICAL I KNOW.
BUT I LOVE PEOPLE WHO LIKE EACH OTHER.
And I hate pretty much every single thing that fandom chooses to be regarding them. BUT LET’S NOT TALK ABOUT THAT.
Conner/M’gann is aces and I wish them all the awkward adolescent feelings and inevitable kissy-faces in the world. I WILL BE THERE. SQUEALING WITH DELIGHT.
