Or maybe F comes before E.
Or maybe it’s both before and after.

roserayne asked: Hi! I was wondering if you could rec some specific Julia Quinn books? I read a story of hers in an anthology and would like to read a full book but there are like too many to choose from. XD ps. I’m really liking Cold Magic so far!

You could start with the Bridgertons (The Duke and I, The Viscount Who Loved Me, An Offer from a Gentleman, Romancing Mr Bridgerton, To Sir Phillip, With Love, When He Was Wicked, It’s In His Kiss, & On the Way to the Wedding) all of which I liked to various degrees, excepting When He Was Wicked. My favorite is Romancing Mr Bridgerton, followed by It’s in His Kiss and To Sir Phillip, With Love. Though RMB, especially, is best read after the three preceding novels, and TSPWL is best read after RMB because it happens concurrently.

My non-Bridgerton favorites are What Happens in London & Ten Things I Love About You, along with Brighter Than the Sun, and Just Like Heaven.

Reblogging for future reference. I just started “The Duke and I” and am quite enjoying it, even if Quinn suffers a bit from Heyer-itis (using Georgette Heyer novels as more of a reference than anything actually from the regency period. Primary symptoms include excessive use of “chit”/”diamond of the first water” etc and absolutely no references to the war)

Hahahahahahahahaha.

Yeah, they are not exactly HISTORICALLY ACCURATE.

Though she does talk about the war a lot more in all her non-Bridgerton books, many of which involve soldiers and/or SPIES.

Anonymous asked: I'm glad you liked Just Like Heaven! That and What Happens in London are my favorites. I agree with you that Quinn's heroes got significantly less Alphahole-ish and THANK GOD FOR THAT. Ugh, remember how bad Anthony was? SO BAD. (Oh, and Benedict too, I guess. I actually forgot about him until just now.) More heroes like Marcus, Colin, Gregory, and Harry, please.

YES. I am so excited about her marked move away from ALPHAHOLES (excellent coinage!) because it gives me hope that in the future I’ll continue to find her stuff enjoyable.

Also, oh man, YOU ARE PROBS NOT THE SAME ANON BUT

Anon who told me to read Brighter Than the Sun

I OWE YOU ONE

because that was indeed SOOOOOOOOO much better than Everything and the Moon.

i officially have a fully functional bridgertons tag

that i have attached to all my previous bridgertons posts

my transformation is complete

Anonymous asked: I've actually had the entire Bridgerton collection FOR AGES, but never read them until I saw your reviews. RMB's definitely my favorite. I went ahead and got Just Like Heaven by Julia Quinn too, which is pretty sweet and charming (protags who like each other! cunnilingus!). Have you tried the Pink Carnation series? They're somewhat reminiscent of Julia Quinn's style, but with extra spies and intrigue and unlikely protags.

ROMANCING MISTER BRIDGERTOOOON <3333

OH MAN that makes me so excited for Just Like Heaven. I’d gone back to some of Quinn’s older work first before I headed into her latest, but then got distracted. But the promise of cunnilingus IS NOT TO BE SCOFFED AT.

And I’ve never tried the Pink Carnation series but I’ll give it a look!

shoesforall asked: I am re-reading Julia Quinn thanks to you! The Pall Mall match is *still* hilarious to me.

THE MOST HILARIOUS ALWAYS AND FOREVER

ala-away asked: If you are looking for more Quinn novels to read, may I suggest "How to Marry a Marquis"? Lady Danbury features quite heavily in it.

Oh, I’ve already acquired and ORGANIZED INTO A READING LIST her entire library.

NO WORRIES.

I loved that about her! SO relatable for me! But with dreamcasting, there just aren’t that many full figured female celebs to choose from, unless you go all Renee-Zellweger-as-Bridget-Jones and make skinny women gain a lot of weight. :(

One of the unfortunate results of our terrible society.

You have to try SO MUCH HARDER to find non-skinny (or non-white or non-etc etc etc) peeps for shit. Because you mostly just don’t know who they are unless you follow shit closely because they don’t get the acclaim and the work unless they’re the specific (usually singular) [Marginalized] Celeb of the Moment.

omg I have only read The Duke and I and I was still SO PSYCHED that one of the future female leads was described as being thoroughly plus sized, so. NO THANK YOU, FANCASTERS. NOOO THANK YOU.

SO MUCH NO

I mean Quinn punks out a leeeetle bit imo because Penelope does lose a small amount of weight in the second book, though again she’s still noted as being fatter than is ~fashionable~, just in a way that Penelope feels better able to euphemise as ~pleasantly round~ than before.

But considering that the early 1800s was firmly in the days of the rubenesque ideal, that absolutely still puts Penelope inarguably into the STOP TRYING TO CAST SKINNY PEOPLE AS HER category.

well it looks like that’s the thing to make me read these. i mourn for my life.

I would apologize, but I ain’t even sorry.

the post directly under this one on my dash: biggirlbarbie.tumblr.co…

looooooooolololololol colin’s sexual fantasies

and before someone descends on my ask because someone ALWAYS does

I have absolutely nothing against Amy Adams!!!!

I do however have something against the fact that Penelope Featherington is explicitly, canonically described, throughout the Bridgerton series as:

a) being zaftig/plump/fat/round/full-figured/etc~

and, at the risk of being crass,

b) having big tits

and yet people for some reason think that this is an appropriate casting choice:

aamalie replied to your post: M-may I ask you a Bridgertons question? I started reading these books because of your reviews (I’m just now starting #5!), even though I’d seen them highly recommended by someone else earlier, and you were just SO spot-on with the reviews. How did you imagine the characters? (Namely, Colin/Penelope, who were the best). Any dreamcast?

every time I see Amy Adams suggested for Penelope I just have to sit back and shake my head at the internet because……………… why do people like being so so very wrong???

omg have you seen that abomination… MORE THAN ONCE?!

people need to stop being wrong

they need to stop it rfn

just to let you know, i download all of them and started with Romancing Mr. Bridgerton (because Penelope sounded perfect) and made all the eyehearts at her while reading.

NOOOOOO YOU WEREN’T SUPPOSED TO START THERE

ROMANCING MR. BRIDGERTON IS IMPROVED LIKE A MILLION PERCENT BY SEEING PENELOPE AND COLIN IN THE PREVIOUS THREE BOOKS WEEEEEP
